About this site¶
Emergency Guide exists for one reason: to help ordinary people know what to do in an emergency, in plain language, when they are frightened and short on time. It is free to use and works on any phone, even without a connection.
What this site is¶
The guides gather advice that the Red Cross and Red Crescent, public health agencies, fire services, national disaster agencies, and police give the public, and put it in short steps that a stressed person can act on. Where a topic needs more depth, the page links to the official source.
The site covers first aid, natural disasters, accidents, personal safety, urgent problems at home, and how to prepare. Guides are written to work in any country. Where advice depends on where you live, the page says so.
Our sister site¶
Hurricanes, typhoons and tropical cyclones are covered in depth by hurricane.guide, with local help pages for many countries. We link there rather than repeat it.
What this site is not¶
- It is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number first. See the emergency numbers.
- It is not training. Reading about first aid does not replace a course. Each first aid guide encourages you to take one.
- It is not medical, legal, or professional advice. It provides general information only. Your local officials and professionals always know your situation better.
How the guides are written¶
Each guide follows a written style guide: friendly and professional, plain words, short sentences, actions before explanations. Instructions come from official public guidance. Where official sources disagree, we use the more cautious advice. Where a fact is uncertain, the page leaves it out. Guidance changes, so pages are reviewed and updated over time.
Translations¶
The English version is the source. Translations are machine assisted and reviewed by people where possible. If a sentence reads wrongly or could be clearer in your language, please tell us so we can fix it.
Privacy¶
The site currently uses no analytics, no cookies, and no ads. It stores copies of its own pages and the state of your checklists on your device so it works offline. The privacy policy has the details, and the terms of use explain the limits of the information here.
Report a mistake or suggest a topic¶
If something here is wrong, out of date, or missing, we want to know. Use the contact link in the footer at the bottom of every page. Corrections that affect safety are made first.
