Fadhbanna arda i gceist le lá scrúdaithe: ID caillte, tinneas agus teipeanna teicneolaíochta

Ní hionann uimhreacha éigeandála de réir tíre. Úsáideann an leathanach seo 911, uimhir na Stát Aontaithe agus Ceanada. Úsáideann go leor tíortha eile 112, 999, nó uimhir eile. Faigh an uimhir do do thír.

You have studied, slept and packed your bag, and then something goes wrong. Your ID is missing, you wake up with a fever, the bus does not come, or your internet drops in the middle of an online exam. Almost every exam body has seen these problems before and has a process for them. Your job is to stay calm, act quickly, tell the right people and keep a record.

Tá an treoir seo le haghaidh mic léinn agus tuismitheoirí atá ag déanamh scrúduithe caighdeánaithe, scrúduithe náisiúnta agus réigiúnacha, trialacha iontrála agus scrúduithe proctored ar líne. Míníonn sé cad atá le déanamh do na héigeandálaí is coitianta, conas dul i dteagmháil leis an mbord scrúdaithe nó leis an soláthraí tástála, conas a oibríonn breithniú speisialta agus athsceidealú, agus conas aire a thabhairt duit féin má théann an lá go dona. Ní hionann rialacha de réir tíre agus scrúdaithe, mar sin lean na treoracha reatha ó do chomhlacht scrúduithe féin i gcónaí.

Déan é seo anois

  1. Stay calm and do not give up on the exam. Many problems can be fixed or recorded, and panic wastes the time you have. Take three slow breaths with a long exhale.
  2. Contact the exam centre or test provider straight away. Use the phone number or help line on your admission ticket, school website or exam body page. Tell them who you are, your candidate number, the exam and what has happened.
  3. If you are unwell, decide if you need medical care first. For severe symptoms, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States and Canada, 112 across the European Union, 999 in the United Kingdom). The uimhreacha éigeandála page lists other countries.
  4. Keep evidence. Take screenshots, photos, receipts and notes with times. Ask for a doctor's note or letter if you are ill.
  5. Fiafraigh de na roghanna atá agat. D’fhéadfadh go n-áireofaí orthu seo suí go déanach, seomra eile, athsceidealú, scrúdú smididh, nó breithniú speisialta tar éis an scrúdaithe.
  6. Abair le do scoil nó le duine fásta a bhfuil muinín agat astu. Is féidir leo dul i dteagmháil leis an gcomhlacht scrúdaithe ar do shon agus tacaíocht a thabhairt duit.

Roimh an lá: an baol a laghdú

Is féidir an chuid is mó d’éigeandálaí lae scrúduithe a laghdú trí phleanáil. An treoir ar an oíche roimh thástáil mhór tugann sé plean iomlán um thráthnóna, agus clúdaíonn an liosta thíos na príomhphointí don lóistíocht.

  • Seiceáil an dáta cruinn, am tosaithe, am tuairiscithe agus suíomh ar do thicéad iontrála.
  • Read the ID rules. Many exams accept only certain photo IDs, and the name must match your registration.
  • Pack the night before and put ID in a place you will not forget, such as inside your shoe by the door or on top of your bag.
  • Plan the route, and a backup route. Add at least 30 minutes of buffer.
  • Save the exam centre and exam body contact numbers on your phone, and write them on paper.
  • Charge devices and have a backup power plan for online exams.
  • Tell a parent or friend your schedule so someone can help if something goes wrong.
  • If you have a health condition, discuss a plan with your school in advance. See the guide on socruithe a thástáil agus tacaíocht a fháil.

Lost, forgotten or invalid ID

Most high stakes exams require photo identification to prove you are the registered candidate. Without it you may be refused entry or required to complete extra steps.

Cad atá le déanamh

  1. Search quickly but calmly. Check your bag, pockets, car and the place you last saw it. Ask a family member to check at home.
  2. Contact the test centre or exam body at once. Explain the problem. Ask what alternative ID or verification is accepted.
  3. Think about other valid IDs. Accepted documents vary, but may include a passport, national ID card, driver's licence, military ID or school ID with photo. Check your exam body's list.
  4. Ask a family member to bring or send a photo of it, if allowed. Some exams require the original, but some accept a digital copy for emergencies.
  5. Ask if the school can vouch for you. Some systems allow a school or centre staff member who knows you to confirm your identity and complete a form.
  6. If ID is stolen, report it. Tell the police if appropriate, and get a report number. See the guide on sparán caillte agus aisghabháil ID goidte.
  7. Get written confirmation of what was agreed. Keep the name of the person you spoke to and the time.

Common problems with ID

Problem Cad atá le déanamh
Name on ID does not match registration Contact the exam body before the day, with proof such as a marriage or name change document or school letter
ID expired Check whether expired ID is accepted. Some exams do not accept it
Only a photo on a phone Ask whether digital ID is allowed. Many exams require physical ID
No photo on the ID Ask about alternative documents or school verification
ID damaged Bring it anyway and explain, and bring a backup such as a school card
Under age with no government ID Check whether a school ID or letter is accepted

Má tá tú iompú ar shiúl

If you are refused entry and cannot resolve it, ask clearly about your options: a later session, a replacement exam date, or a request for special consideration. Ask for the decision in writing. Contact your school as soon as possible. Do not argue with the staff on the day, because they usually follow strict rules. Calmly ask what the process is for an appeal or rescheduling.

Illness on the day

Feeling unwell before an exam is common. The question is whether you can safely sit the paper, and what support is available.

Decide if you need urgent care

Iarr cabhair leighis práinneach agus ná déan an scrúdú má tá:

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing or fainting.
  • A high fever with a stiff neck, rash, confusion or severe headache.
  • Severe or persistent vomiting, diarrhoea or abdominal pain.
  • A serious injury, such as a head injury or suspected broken bone.
  • A severe allergic reaction.
  • Symptoms of a mental health crisis or thoughts of self harm.

Call your local emergency number (911 in the United States and Canada, 112 across the European Union, 999 in the United Kingdom). The guides on panic attacks agus ag lagú explain what to do for those problems. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, see the section on getting help below.

If you are ill but not in danger

Think about three options and talk to a parent and the school before deciding.

  1. Sit the exam anyway and apply for special consideration afterwards. This may suit mild illness, like a cold. Record the illness and get evidence from a doctor or pharmacist if possible.
  2. Sit the exam and ask for adjustments on the day. You may be able to have water, tissues, rest breaks or a quieter room.
  3. Do not sit the exam and ask for a deferral or make up exam. This may be best for serious illness, contagious illness, or if you cannot concentrate. Many exam bodies require medical evidence.

Contagious illness

If you have a contagious illness such as flu, a stomach bug, measles or another infection, tell the exam centre before you arrive. Staff may arrange a separate room, ask you to stay home, or offer an alternative date, depending on the rules and the illness. Do not come to the exam without phoning first if you may be a risk to others. For campus outbreaks, see the guide on campus meningitis, measles or norovirus outbreaks.

If you become ill during the exam

Raise your hand and tell the invigilator quietly. They can arrange water, a break, or medical help. Time lost on supervised breaks is sometimes added back. Ask afterwards about special consideration. For anxiety or panic, see test anxiety on exam day agus panic attack during a test.

Getting evidence

  • Ask for a doctor's letter or medical certificate that states the illness, date and how it affected you. Some exam bodies have specific forms.
  • If you cannot see a doctor, keep records such as prescriptions, receipts or hospital paperwork.
  • Ask a parent or adult to write down what happened and when.
  • Ask your school what evidence the exam body needs, and by when.

Missed or delayed transport

A late bus, a car breakdown or a road closure can threaten a start time. Move fast and communicate.

Cad atá le déanamh

  1. Call the exam centre immediately. Tell them you are on your way and your estimated arrival time. Give your name and candidate number.
  2. Find a faster way. Ask a parent, friend or taxi service. Consider whether cycling or a ride share is faster.
  3. If your car breaks down, get safe first. Move to a safe place away from traffic. See the guide on briseadh carr if you are stuck on a road. Safety comes before the exam.
  4. Keep contact open. Keep your phone charged and answer calls from the centre.
  5. Record proof. Keep tickets, screenshots of delays, a note from the transport company, or a tow receipt.
  6. Ask what is possible when you arrive. Many centres allow late arrival within a limited time. Rules vary, and some exams do not allow entry after the start. Ask for the rule.

Rialacha teachta déanach

Late arrival policies differ by exam. Some allow entry up to a set time after the start and no extra time to make up for lateness. Others close the door when the paper begins. If you arrive after the cut off, ask about a make up date. If transport problems were outside your control, such as severe weather, a strike or a major crash, you may be able to apply for special consideration. Keep evidence.

Severe weather and emergencies

If a storm, flood, fire or other emergency makes travel unsafe, do not risk your life for an exam. Contact the exam body and your school. Exams are often rescheduled for widespread emergencies. See the guide on going to school in severe weather and blizzards.

Power or internet failure in an online exam

Online and remote proctored exams depend on devices and connections. Technical failures are one of the most stressful problems, but many exam providers have clear steps.

Roimh an scrúdú

  • Rith an seiceáil córais a thairgeann soláthraí na scrúduithe, go hidéalach cúpla lá roimhe sin.
  • Nuashonraigh do ghléas agus dún cláir eile.
  • Plugáil isteach do charger agus úsáid stiall cumhachta. Smaoinigh ar fhoinse cumhachta cúltaca má tá bristeacha coitianta.
  • Bain úsáid as nasc sreangaithe más féidir, nó suí in aice le do ródaire.
  • Bíodh hotspot fóin réidh agat ach amháin má cheadaíonn na rialacha é.
  • Bíodh eolas agat ar an teagmhálaí tacaíochta teicniúla agus scríobh síos é.
  • Bíodh d'aitheantas agus aon ábhar ceadaithe réidh agat.
  • Abair le comhghleacaithe tí gan bandaleithead trom a úsáid le linn an scrúdaithe.

If your internet drops

  1. Stay calm and stay in place. Do not leave the room or pick up other devices unless allowed, because this may be treated as a rule breach.
  2. Try to reconnect. Check your router and cable, or switch to a hotspot if the rules allow it.
  3. Contact technical support or the proctor. Use the chat, phone or email listed in the exam instructions. Say what happened and when.
  4. Take screenshots and notes with timestamps. Record error messages, the time of the outage and the time you reconnected.
  5. Follow the instructions you are given. You may be allowed to resume, restart or reschedule.
  6. Report to your school or instructor immediately afterwards. Keep a copy of every message.

If your power fails

  1. Check whether your device has battery and whether the exam software can continue.
  2. Contact the proctor or technical support using a phone.
  3. Move to a power source if allowed, and record what you do.
  4. Photograph the outage if safe, and note the time. A utility outage notice or website can support your case.
  5. Keep your ID and workspace as set up, to avoid claims of breaking rules.

If the exam software crashes or flags you wrongly

Automated proctoring systems can mistakenly flag normal behaviour, such as looking away to think or a noise in the background. If your exam crashes or you are flagged unfairly, collect evidence, contact support, and follow the appeal process. The guide on tuairteanna scrúdaithe proctoring ar líne agus bratacha bréagacha covers how to document and respond. If you are accused of cheating, see academic integrity and cheating accusations.

Tips for the exam recording

  • Keep your workspace tidy, with only allowed items.
  • Explain any unavoidable interruptions to the proctor, and note them.
  • Do not turn off the camera or microphone unless told to.

Computer based tests at a test centre

If you take a test at a centre, technical problems like frozen screens or power cuts can happen. Raise your hand and tell the staff. They can pause or restart your test, and may add time for lost minutes. Ask them to record the problem. Keep notes about what you saw and when. If you are not satisfied, contact the test provider after the exam and cite the incident record.

How to contact the exam board or test provider

Contacting the right people quickly helps a lot. Keep these steps in mind.

Cé leis dul i dteagmháil

Situation First contact Then
Problem before the exam day School exams officer or test provider help line Exam body website
Problem on the way to the exam Uimhir theileafóin an ionaid scrúdaithe ar do thicéad Scoil, ansin comhlacht scrúdaithe

Cad atá le rá

Coinnigh do theachtaireacht gearr agus fíorasach. Cuir san áireamh:

  • D’ainm iomlán agus d’uimhir iarrthóra.
  • Ainm an scrúdaithe, dáta agus am.
  • An t-ionad nó an suíomh tástála, nó ardán ar líne.
  • What happened and when.
  • A bhfuil de dhíth ort: tús déanach, dáta eile, breithniú speisialta, taifead ar an eachtra.
  • Uimhir theileafóin agus ríomhphost inar féidir teacht ort.

Sampla: "Is é m'ainm [ainm], uimhir iarrthóra [uimhir]. Táim le suí [scrúdú] ag [am] san [ionad]. Tá fiabhras orm agus litir dochtúra. Ba mhaith liom na roghanna atá agam maidir le suí níos déanaí nó iarratas a dhéanamh ar chomaoin speisialta a fháil amach."

Coinnigh taifead

  • Scríobh síos an dáta, an t-am, ainm an duine agus an méid a dúirt siad.
  • Sábháil ríomhphoist agus screenshots.
  • Iarr cinntí i scríbhinn.
  • Coinnigh cóipeanna de litreacha, admhálacha agus tuarascálacha leighis.

Mura bhfuil tú in ann teacht ar dhuine ar bith

Bain triail as níos mó ná cainéal amháin: teileafón, ríomhphost, foirm suíomh Gréasáin, agus do scoil. Má tá sé lasmuigh d’uaireanta oifige, fág teachtaireacht agus lean an chéad rud. Iarr ar thuismitheoir nó ar dhuine fásta cuidiú. Idir an dá linn, coinnigh nótaí de do chuid iarrachtaí dul i dteagmháil leo.

Special consideration and other support

Special consideration is a process, used in many systems, that allows exam bodies to adjust a result when a candidate has been affected by temporary events at or near the time of the exam, such as illness, bereavement, an accident, or a serious disruption. It is not a way to change a poor performance caused by lack of study. Rules differ by country and exam body.

What may qualify

  • Tinneas nó gortú géara ar an lá nó thart ar an lá.
  • Fadhbanna tromchúiseacha teaghlaigh, mar bhás nó ligean isteach san ospidéal.
  • Éigeandálaí baile, mar dhóiteán nó tuilte.
  • Cur isteach ar an ionad, mar aláram dóiteáin, torann nó teip theicniúil.
  • Cur isteach iompair lasmuigh de do smacht.

How it works

  • The school or exam centre usually submits the application, so tell them quickly.
  • Evidence is usually required, such as a medical letter, death notice or incident record.
  • Tá spriocdhátaí ann, a d’fhéadfadh a bheith laethanta nó seachtainí tar éis an scrúdaithe.
  • D’fhéadfadh gur coigeartú beag ar mharcanna a bheidh mar thoradh air, bunaithe de ghnáth ar an méid a chuaigh i bhfeidhm ort, nó ar chead chun athscrúdú a dhéanamh. I roinnt córas, d’fhéadfadh go mbeadh teorainn leis an gcoigeartú mura ndearna tú go leor den scrúdú.
  • Ní hionann breithniú speisialta agus socruithe rochtana, a phleanáiltear roimh ré do riachtanais fhadtéarmacha. Féach ar an treoir ar socruithe a thástáil agus tacaíocht a fháil.

Sna Stáit Aontaithe

I gcás tástálacha caighdeánaithe mar an SAT agus ACT, tairgeann soláthraithe tástála bealaí chun dátaí tástála a athsceidealú nó a athrú, uaireanta le táillí nó tarscaoileadh táillí i gcásanna áirithe, agus tá nósanna imeachta acu chun neamhrialtachtaí a thástáil ar nós saincheisteanna teicniúla nó cur isteach san ionad. Athraíonn na sonraí, mar sin seiceáil leathanaigh bheartais reatha Bhord an Choláiste agus ACT. Le haghaidh tástálacha stáit agus scrúduithe scoile, déanann an scoil nó an ceantar cinneadh ar dhátaí comhdhéanaimh.

Sa Ríocht Aontaithe

Maidir le cáilíochtaí ginearálta, foilsíonn Comh-Chomhairle na gCáilíochtaí rialacha le haghaidh breithniú speisialta, agus déanann an scoil nó an coláiste an t-iarratas le fianaise. Is féidir le boird scrúdaithe treoir a sholáthar freisin maidir le héigeandálaí agus teacht isteach déanach.

in áit eile

Tá próisis inchomparáide ag údaráis náisiúnta scrúduithe i go leor tíortha. In Éirinn, láimhseálann Coimisiún na Scrúduithe Stáit ceisteanna do na scrúduithe Teistiméireachta. Iarr ar do scoil nó ar do aireacht oideachais faoin bpróiseas i do thír.

Looking after yourself when the day goes wrong

A disrupted exam day can feel like a disaster, and strong feelings are normal. The steps below can help.

  • Breathe slowly and ground yourself. The techniques in the guide on test anxiety on exam day work in any stressful moment.
  • Eat, drink water and rest.
  • Talk to someone you trust.
  • Avoid blaming yourself. Many of these problems are outside your control.
  • Focus on the next step rather than the whole outcome.
  • If more exams are coming, plan how to handle them, and consider asking for support.

If the exam went badly, the guide on cad atá le déanamh tar éis drochthoradh explains appeals, retakes and coping.

When to seek wider help

Talk to a school counsellor, doctor or trusted adult if you feel hopeless, cannot sleep, have repeated panic, or fear the next exam to the point of avoiding it.

If you are thinking about harming yourself

If you have thoughts of suicide or self harm, or feel you cannot stay safe, tell someone now. Call your local emergency number (911 in the United States and Canada, 112 across the European Union, 999 in the United Kingdom) if you are in danger. In the United States and Canada you can call or text 988, in the United Kingdom and Ireland you can call Samaritans on 116 123, and young people in the United Kingdom can call Childline on 0800 1111. The uimhreacha éigeandála page lists other countries, and the guide on géarchéim meabhairshláinte explains how to help.

Keep a go bag of evidence

Keep your admission ticket, ID, contact numbers and a pen in one folder. If something goes wrong, you can quickly find the details you need and write down times, names and what was said.

Advice for parents

  • Stay calm, because your child will copy your tone.
  • Help by making calls, driving or finding documents, rather than adding to the pressure.
  • Keep a note of times, names and decisions.
  • Contact the school if your child is ill or if there has been a problem.
  • Do not argue with exam staff on the day. Ask for the process and follow it.
  • Reassure your child that one disrupted exam can often be fixed, and that their worth does not depend on it.
  • Le haghaidh tuilleadh eolais ar thacú le leanaí, féach an treoir ar how parents can help a child through exam stress.

Plean simplí éigeandála a ullmhú

  • Le haghaidh scrúduithe ar líne, déan teagmháil le tacaíocht theicniúil agus cumhacht cúltaca nó plean ceangail.
  • Uimhir theileafóin an dochtúir.

Coinnigh cóip ar pháipéar agus ar d’fhón.

Common myths

Miotas: Má chaillim m'aitheantas, ní féidir liom an scrúdú a dhéanamh. Tá próisis mhalartacha fíoraithe ag go leor comhlachtaí scrúdaithe. Glaoigh chomh luath agus a thuigeann tú.

Miotas: Má bhíonn mé déanach, dícháilítear go huathoibríoch mé. Athraíonn na beartais, agus ceadaíonn go leor acu iontráil déanach laistigh de theorainn nó cuireann siad roghanna makeup ar fáil.

Miotas: Má dhéantar scrúdú agus mé tinn ní féidir liom cabhair a fháil. B'fhéidir go mbeidh tú in ann iarratas a dhéanamh ar chomaoin speisialta más féidir leat a thaispeáint go raibh tionchar agat, mar sin inis don scoil.

Miotas: Is ormsa i gcónaí fadhbanna scrúduithe ar líne. Tarlaíonn teipeanna teicniúla, agus bíonn próisis ag soláthraithe chun iad a thaifeadadh agus a athbhreithniú.

Miotas: Ní haon tairbhe an gearán a dhéanamh tar éis an scrúdaithe. Is minic a dhéanann fianaise a bhailítear ar an lá agus tuairiscí leide difríocht.

Ceisteanna coitianta

Cad ba cheart dom a dhéanamh má chaillim m'aitheantas roimh scrúdú tábhachtach?

Déan teagmháil láithreach leis an ionad scrúduithe nó soláthraí na trialach, mínigh an scéal agus fiafraigh cén t-aitheantas nó dearbhú eile a nglacann siad leo, mar shampla grianghraf aitheantais eile nó deimhniú ó do scoil. Iarr ar bhall teaghlaigh cuardach a dhéanamh sa bhaile nó duine eile a thabhairt leat, agus tuairiscigh goid do na póilíní más gá. Faigh aon chomhaontú i scríbhinn agus fiafraigh faoi athsceidealú mura féidir ligean isteach thú.

Cad a tharlóidh má dhúisím tinn lá scrúdaithe?

Má tá siomptóim throma agat ar nós pian cliabhraigh, trioblóid análaithe nó fiabhras ard le mearbhall, faigh cúnamh leighis ar dtús agus cuir glaoch ar d’uimhir éigeandála áitiúil. Le tinneas níos séimhe, cuir glaoch ar an ionad scrúdaithe agus do scoil, faigh nóta dochtúra más féidir, agus socraigh leo an scrúdú a dhéanamh le tacaíocht, iarratas a dhéanamh ar chomaoin speisialta, nó cur siar.
