Vioittunut SD-kortti, lukukelvoton kameramedia ja RAW-valokuvien palautus¶
For a wedding photographer, filmmaker, journalist, or parent returning from a once-in-a-lifetime trip, few words on an LCD screen are more terrifying than "Card Cannot Be Accessed, Reinsert/Change Card or Format Card with Camera," followed by Windows or macOS popping up "You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it." When an SDXC, microSD, CFexpress Type A/B, or XQD memory card suddenly turns into an unmountable RAW osio tai näyttää täysin tyhjältä (0 bytes used) after a battery dies mid-write or a card reader disconnects prematurely, the raw binary data of your photographs and 4K video frames is almost always still sitting intact inside the NAND flash memory cells.
Seuraavat 60 sekuntia ovat kuitenkin kriittisiä. Napsauta "Alusta" ja käytä Windowsia CHKDSK, letting macOS Spotlight index the failing card, or shooting even three "test photos" to see if the camera still works will permanently overwrite the FAT32/exFAT File Allocation Table and destroy contiguous RAW image headers. Rescuing 100 percent of your wedding or event shoot requires flipping the physical write-protect lock immediately, creating a bit-for-bit sector image of the card using a read-only forensic cloning tool, carving sensor-specific RAW formats (.CR3, .ARW, .NEF, .RAF, .DNG), and reconstructing fragmented non-contiguous camera video streams (.MP4 / .MOV / .RSV) that standard file-carving tools split into unplayable pieces.
Tee tämä nyt¶
- Pull the memory card out of the camera immediately and slide the physical Write-Protect Switch (on full-size SDXC/SDHC cards) down to the
LOCKposition. Never shoot another photo, never run the camera's internal "Image Database Repair / Recover DB" tool before backing up the raw sectors, and never swap the card back and forth between multiple cameras. Every time a camera or operating system mounts a read-write card, it writes hidden system metadata folders (.Spotlight-V100,.Trashes,System Volume Information, taiSONY/AVF_INFO) directly over unallocated flash blocks containing your lost photos. - Dismiss every "Format Disk" or "Initialize" dialog box immediately by clicking
Cancel. When the Master Boot Record (MBR) or exFAT Volume Boot Record corrupts, Windows and macOS assume the card is brand-new unformatted silicon and immediately ask to format it. Clicking Format (especially inside a modern Sony, Canon, or Nikon mirrorless camera) can send a hardware SDERASE/DISCARDcommand to the card's internal flash controller that zeroes every block in less than 2 seconds. - NEVER run Windows
CHKDSK /for macOS Disk Utility "First Aid" on a corrupted camera card.CHKDSKis not a photo recovery program; it is a file-system sanitizer. WhenCHKDSKruns on a corrupted exFAT camera card, it forcefully rewrites the allocation bitmap right on top of your fragile card, chops fragmented 4K video files into useless.CHKscraps inside a hiddenFOUND.000folder, and permanently scrambles the cluster chains needed by specialized video-reassembly software. - Check if the card feels blisteringly hot to the touch within 5 seconds of plugging it into a USB card reader. If a microSD, SD, or CFexpress card immediately heats up above 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) or smells faintly of ozone/hot plastic when inserted into a reader, unplug it within 1 second. A scorching-hot card has a shorted ceramic capacitor or damaged controller circuit; leaving it plugged in for even 30 seconds will thermally burn a hole straight through the silicon NAND die, making lab recovery impossible.
- Create a raw byte-for-byte sector image file (
.imgtai.bin) of the entire card onto your computer's hard drive FIRST. Never run recovery scans repeatedly against a worn or glitching flash card. Image the card once using GNUddrescue, DMDE, or R-Studio, put the physical SD card safely in a protective case, and run all photo and video recovery tools against the.imgfile on your computer. - If you are a wedding or commercial event photographer facing a catastrophic hardware failure (Card shows
0 MBin Disk Management), stop DIY attempts immediately. When a card's internal flash controller fails and reports0 MB,No Media, taiGeneric USB Loaderin Windows Disk Management / macOSdiskutil list, no downloadable software on Earth can see the card. It requires a specialized monolithic NAND pinout / chip-off lab (details in Phase 5 below), and running voltage through it repeatedly accelerates NAND charge bleed.

Diagnostic matrix: identifying your exact SD / CFexpress card failure mode¶
Before running any tool, open Windows Disk Management (Win + X -> Disk Management), macOS Terminal (diskutil list), or Linux Terminal (lsblk -b) with the card plugged into a dedicated external USB 3.0 card reader (avoid built-in laptop SD slots, which often sit behind buggy PCIe-to-SD bridges).

Root Technical Cause | DIY Software Recovery Success Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
Camera says "Card not formatted" or Windows says "Format disk in drive E: before you can use it" (RAW file system) |
Shows 100% correct total capacity (e.g., 119.08 GB RAW tai Unallocated on a 128 GB card) |
The exFAT / FAT32 Boot Sector, Partition Table, or File Allocation Table (FAT) was corrupted when the camera battery died mid-write, the card was pulled out while the red access LED was blinking, or a voltage spike hit during mount. All photo/video clusters are still intact. | 98% to 100% DIY success (once imaged to .img and scanned with DMDE, R-Studio, or PhotoRec). |
Card opens normally on computer, DCIM folder exists, shows 80 GB "Used Space" in Properties, but DCIM looks empty or holds weird symbols (╬▒▓.╝) |
Shows 100% correct total capacity (exFAT tai FAT32) |
Directory entry table corruption (or a shortcut virus on Windows that hid the real folders). The underlying photo and video files are still sitting in the data clusters, just detached from the folder tree. | 95% to 100% DIY success via directory reconstruction in DMDE/R-Studio or signature carving. |

CRITICAL DISTINCTION: 1. Standard in-camera Format on Canon / Nikon / Fujifilm / Panasonic SD cards: Usually performs a high-level Quick Format (wipes only the FAT/exFAT directory tables and leaves all RAW photo data intact on the blocks). 2. Sony Mirrorless ( A7IV, A7SIII, FX3, A1, A9) SD & CFexpress Format OR "Low-Level Format" on Canon: Sends a hardware SD CMD38 ERASE/DISCARD or NVMe Deallocate/Format command to the card controller. Once the controller executes CMD38, every single sector returns 0x00 tai 0xFF instantly. |
95%+ on Quick Format (Canon/Nikon/Fuji standard format); 0% if hardware CMD38 ERASE was triggered (check immediately with a hex editor like HxD or DMDE: if sectors beyond LBA 100,000 are all 00 00 00, the controller erased the flash). |

Phase 1: Physical inspection and creating a forensic sector image (.img)¶
Before downloading any recovery software, protect the physical card from further electrical or logical wear:
1. Clean oxidized gold contacts and engage the Write-Protect Lock¶
- Inspect the gold contact pads on the back of the SD, microSD, or XQD/CFexpress card. If the card was exposed to ocean salt spray, rain, humidity, or skin oils, gently wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free microfiber swab dampened with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and let it dry for 60 seconds.
- On a full-size SDHC/SDXC card (or a microSD-to-SD adapter), slide the tiny white or gray plastic tab on the left edge down toward the bottom edge (
LOCK). (Note: The physical SD lock switch is actually a mechanical feeler read by the card reader slot, not an internal electronic circuit inside the SD card itself; therefore, we also mount the card read-only in software).
2. Create a 1:1 Bit-Stream Image (.img tai .dsk) of the Card FIRST¶
Never run three different photo-recovery programs directly against a glitching SD card. Flash memory cards experiencing controller read errors can suddenly lock up into permanent 0 MB controller safe mode if hammered by millions of random seeks.
Instead, copy every sector of the card sequentially in one single pass onto your computer's internal SSD or hard drive:
Option A: Using GNU ddrescue (Linux or macOS Terminal, Best for cards with bad sectors or slow reads)¶
# 1. Identify the exact block device name of your SD/CFexpress card (e.g., /dev/sdb on Linux or /dev/disk4 on macOS)
lsblk -o NAME,SIZE,MODEL,RO # (On macOS use: diskutil list)
# 2. First pass: Copy all healthy, fast-reading sectors into a single .img file on your PC hard drive
# (On macOS, use /dev/rdisk4 instead of /dev/disk4 for 10x faster raw unbuffered I/O)
sudo ddrescue -b 512 -c 128 -n /dev/sdb ~/Desktop/wedding_card1_backup.img ~/Desktop/wedding_card1.map
# 3. Second pass: Scrape any remaining slow or damaged sectors using direct I/O
sudo ddrescue -d -r 3 /dev/sdb ~/Desktop/wedding_card1_backup.img ~/Desktop/wedding_card1.map
Option B: Using DMDE or R-Studio on Windows / macOS (Free GUI Imaging)¶
- Download DMDE (DM Disk Editor and Data Recovery) (free edition works unrestricted for disk imaging and full-directory recovery) or R-Studio.
- Open DMDE as Administrator -> Select Physical Devices -> Highlight your SD/CFexpress card -> Click Tools -> Copy Sectors.
- Set Source as the entire physical SD card (Start Sector
0loppusektoriin) ja aseta Kohde -asetukseksi Tiedosto tietokoneesi kovalevyllä nimeltäwedding_card1_backup.img. - Kerran
Vaihe 1: Tarkista ensimmäiset sektorit Hex Viewerissa (10 sekunnin "laitteiston tyhjennys" -tarkistus)¶
Step 2: Reconstruct the Original Folder Tree and Filenames First (DMDE / R-Studio)¶
Kokeile aina File System Reconstructiona ennen puhdasta "File Carving" -toimintoa. Miksi? Tiedostojärjestelmän uudelleenjärjestely lukee säilyneet varmuuskopiot exFAT/FAT32-hakemistotaulukot palauttaakseen tarkat alkuperäiset tiedostonimesi (_DSC4812.ARW, 100CANON/IMG_9021.CR3), alikansiot ja vierekkäiset ketjut:
1. Avaa wedding_card1_backup.img DMDE:ssä tai R-Studiossa.
3. Laajenna $Root / DCIM hakemistopuu.
4. Valitse kamerakansiosi (esim. 100MSDCF, 100CANON, 101ND850, 100_FUJI) and click Recover to save all files to a new folder on your computer.
Step 3: Deep RAW Signature Carving with PhotoRec (Kun tiedostotaulukko on täysin tuhoutunut)¶
If the directory table was overwritten and filenames are gone, use PhotoRec (bundled free with TestDisk by CGSecurity for Windows, macOS, and Linux). Unlike generic consumer tools that only understand .JPG, PhotoRecissä on alkuperäiset binaariset ylä- ja alatunnisteiden jäsentimet lähes jokaiselle ammattikameran RAW-muodolle, joka on koskaan tehty:
* Canon: .CR3 (ISO-perusmedia ftypcrx säiliö, jota käyttää EOS R5/R6/R3/R1), .CR2, .CRW
* Sony: .ARW (TIFF-pohjainen Sony Alpha RAW)
* Nikon: .NEF ja .NRW
* Fujifilm: .RAF (FUJIFILMCCD-RAW otsikko)
* Leica / Hasselblad / DJI / Pentax / Olympus: .DNG, .3FR, .FFF, .PEF, .ORF / .ORI
# Run PhotoRec directly against your rescued .img disk image file:
photorec ~/Desktop/wedding_card1_backup.img
.ARW,.NEF,.CR2,.DNG): Because Sony.ARW, Nikon.NEF, and Adobe.DNGfiles share the exact same TIFF magic bytes (49 49 2A 00/II*) as a standard.tiffile, PhotoRec may occasionally name a recovered RAW photof123456.tif. Simply inspect the EXIF metadata withexiftooland batch-rename those files back to.ARWtai.NEFusing one command:
# Automatically rename and organize all PhotoRec-carved RAW and JPEG photos by Camera Model and Date Taken using ExifTool:
exiftool -r '-FileName<CreateDate' -d '%Y%m%d_%H%M%S%%-c.%%le' ~/Desktop/photorec_recovered_folder/
Phase 3: The Video Recovery Trap, How to rescue fragmented 4K/8K .MP4, .MOV, ja .RSV files¶
Here is a painful shock that hits wedding videographers, YouTubers, GoPro users, and DJI drone pilots during a card emergency: You run PhotoRec, R-Studio, or Recuva on your corrupted SD card image; 100 percent of your .CR3 / .ARW still photos come back crystal clear, and the tool also recovers forty 8 GB .MP4 tai .MOV video files, but when you double-click any of those recovered .MP4 files in VLC or Premiere Pro, NONE of them will play.
Why standard recovery software fails on modern camera video (Fragmented Interleaved Streams)¶
- Still Photos (
25 MBkohtaan80 MB): Stored by the camera as one single contiguous block of sectors on the card. A standard file carver finds the JPEG/RAW start header, reads straight forward until the end-of-file footer, and saves a working photo. - Modern 4K/6K/8K Camera, Drone, and Action Cam Video (
2 GBkohtaan64 GB): Modern cameras do NOT write video contiguously. As you record, the camera writes three or four simultaneous data streams to different clusters across the card at the same time: - The high-bitrate Main Video + Audio stream (
.MP4tai.MOV); - A simultaneous Low-Res Proxy Video stream (
.LRVon GoPro/DJI, or sub-stream proxy on Sony FX3/A7SIII); - A Real-Time Telemetry / Gyro Stabilization XML or
.SRTstream (Sony Catalyst Gyro metadata, DJI flight logs); and - Periodic Thumbnail
.THMsnapshots. - Because these streams are interleaved every few megabytes across the flash card, your main 10 GB
.MP4wedding ceremony video is actually broken into thousands of non-contiguous fragments scattered across the disk. If the exFAT cluster allocation table is wiped, a standard file carver just grabs a contiguous 10 GB chunk of raw sectors containing mixed-up pieces of main video, proxy.LRVvideo, and XML telemetry, producing a corrupt, unplayable file.
How to successfully recover fragmented or unfinalized camera video¶
Depending on which of the two video failure modes you have, use these specialized workflows:
Scenario A: The Video File Exists on the Card (or is named .RSV on Sony / .TMP), Has Full Gigabyte Size, But Will Not Play¶
When a camera battery dies, a card overheats, or a drone crashes mid-flight, the video is not fragmented, it simply never got its closing moov atom / header index written before power cut out (Sony cameras save these interrupted recordings in the PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIP/ folder with a .RSV extension).
You can repair a missing-header .MP4, .MOV, tai .RSV file to 100% original quality in under 60 seconds using a "Healthy Reference File" recorded on the exact same camera with the exact same resolution, framerate, and codec settings:
# Free Open-Source Method: Use 'untrunc' (specifically the anthwlock/untrunc fork, which supports modern Sony XAVC-S/HS, Canon XF-AVC/HEVC, GoPro, and DJI codecs)
# 1. Supply ONE healthy, playable .MP4/.MOV file recorded on the same camera with identical settings (healthy_reference.mp4)
# 2. Supply your unplayable corrupted video or Sony .RSV file (corrupted_clip.RSV)
untrunc -s healthy_reference.mp4 corrupted_clip.RSV
untrunc reads the codec parameters, audio sample layout, and frame chunk pattern from healthy_reference.mp4, scans the raw H.264 / H.265 (HEVC) / ProRes NAL units inside corrupted_clip.RSV, builds a brand-new moov atom index, and outputs corrupted_clip_fixed.mp4 with full synchronized audio and video right up to the final half-second before power died.
* GUI Alternatives for Reference-File Video Header Repair: Sony Memory Card File Rescue (free official tool for Sony .RSV / XAVC files), Grau GmbH Video Repair Tool (gsr), or Wondershare Repairit / CleverFiles.
Scenario B: The Card Was Formatted or turned RAW, so Video Clusters Are Fragmented Without an Allocation Table¶
If the exFAT file table was wiped by an accidental Quick Format or severe corruption, standard file carvers cannot reassemble interleaved video fragments. You must use a Fragment-Aware Video Carver that inspects individual H.264/HEVC/ProRes frame headers and stitches fragmented clusters back together separate from .LRV proxy streams:
1. SanDisk RescuePRO Deluxe (by LC Technology; works on any brand of SD/CFexpress .img file, not just SanDisk, specifically engineered with a dedicated "Fragmented GoPro/Sony/Canon/DJI Video Recovery" engine that de-interleaves main video from proxy streams).
2. Disk Drill 5+ ("Advanced Camera Recovery" Mode): In recent versions, Disk Drill added a dedicated Advanced Camera Recovery (ACR) module that parses fragmented GoPro, DJI, Sony, Canon, and Insta360 cluster patterns inside .img disk images and rebuilds playable .MP4/.MOV containers.
3. AeroQuartet Treasured (macOS / Cross-Platform Deep Forensic Service): For high-stakes commercial shoots or Cinema RAW Light (.CRM), RED .R3D, or Blackmagic .BRAW cards where automated de-interleaving fails, AeroQuartet's diagnostic tool inspects the raw .img sectors and writes a custom cluster-stitching script for your specific camera model's allocation stride.
Phase 4: Rescuing files hidden by the Windows "Shortcut / Hidden Attribute" Malware¶
Sometimes a photographer plugs their event SD card into a client's or hotel's infected Windows laptop to preview photos, and suddenly all folders inside the SD card turn into 1 KB .lnk shortcuts while the actual photos vanish (even though Windows Properties still shows 48 GB Used Space).
* Do NOT format the card. The malware simply changed the FAT/exFAT file system attributes of your real DCIM folder to Hidden (+H) and System (+S).
* To instantly unhide and copy your real photos without running any recovery scan:
Vaihe 5: Kun korttiohjain kuolee (0 MB / No Media), Monolithic NAND Chip-Off Recovery¶
- Standard PCB vs. Monolithic Package:
- Kuinka monoliittinen palautuslaboratorio pelastaa kuolleen SD-/microSD-kortin:
0.1 mmkerros mustaa maalia kortin takana, paljastaen piilotetun joukon mikroskooppisia kullan/kuparin diagnostisia testityynyjä. - Usean mittapään hämähäkkijigillä (PC-3000 Flash Spider Board tai mikrojuotos)
0.05 mmemalijohdot 20+ tyynyihin), insinööri ohittaa kuolleen SD-ohjaimen kokonaan ja yhdistää logiikan analysaattorin suoraan raakaan 8-bittiseen NAND-flash-dataväylään (D0-D7,ALE,CLE,WE,RE,CE,R/B). - Laboratorio tyhjentää raaka-binaariset NAND-sivut, käyttää laitteistoa ECC:tä (Error-Correcting Code / LDPC), kääntää ohjaimen XOR-tietojen sekoituskuvion ja rakentaa uudelleen Flash Translation Layer (FTL) -lohkotaulukon tulostamaan alkuperäisen.
.CR3/.ARW/.MP4tiedostot.
- ** Ammu aina tarpeeton (
Dual Slot RAW+RAW Backup) kriittisissä tapahtumissa:** Jos kamerassasi on kaksi korttipaikkaa, älä koskaan määritä niitä sellaisiksiOverflow / RelaytaiRAW to Slot 1 + Small JPEG to Slot 2häiden tai maksullisen tapahtuman aikana. Aseta kamera Samanaikaiseen redundanttiseen tallennustilaan (RAW + RAWsekä paikkaan 1 että paikkaan 2), joten jokainen sulkimen painallus kirjoittaa identtisen RAW-tiedoston kahdelle eri fyysiselle kortille samanaikaisesti. - Alusta kortit VAIN kameran sisällä ennen jokaista kuvausta (älä koskaan poista yksittäisiä tiedostoja tietokoneelta): Älä koskaan liitä SD-korttia Maciin tai Windows PC:hen, korosta viime viikon valokuvia, vedä ne roskakoriin ja aseta kortti takaisin kameraan alustamatta. Tiedostojen poistaminen tietokoneelta pilkkoo exFAT-klusterikartan ja jättää piilotetut käyttöjärjestelmän roskakorihakemistot kortille, mikä on ykköslaukaisu kameran kesken tapahtuvan tietokannan vioittumiselle. Varmista sen sijaan, että edellinen kuvasi on varmuuskopioitu kolmeen paikkaan (katso Tietokoneiden varmuuskopiot: 3-2-1-strategia ja katastrofipalautus), alusta sitten kortti puhtaasti kameravalikossa ennen uuden tapahtuman aloittamista.
- Älä koskaan anna kameran akun nousta 0 %:iin videota tallennettaessa: Vaihda kameran akut 15-20 % jäljellä olevalla lataustasolla. Äkillinen jännitteen pudotus raskaan 4K/60p puskurin huuhtelun aikana voi vioittaa exFAT-allokoinnin bittikartan tai jättää videotiedostot ilman
moovotsikko.
OFF. Korttipaikan luukun avaaminen punaisen käyttövalon palaessa keskeyttää flash-käännöstaulukon päivityksen ja kääntää kortin välittömästiRAW.
Usein kysytyt kysymykset¶
Sony-kamerani alustaa SD- tai CFexpress-korttini vahingossa. Miksi palautusohjelmat löytävät 0 tiedostoa, vaikka en ottanut uusia kuvia?
Unlike Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm cameras (whose standard in-camera Format only clears the directory index table and leaves the underlying photo data untouched on the card), most modern **Sony Alpha and Cinema Line cameras** (`A7IV`, `A7RV`, `A7SIII`, `FX3`, `FX6`, `A1`, `A9II/III`, `ZV-E1`) issue a hardware-level **`CMD38` SD Erase / Discard command** (or NVMe Format command on CFexpress Type A) when you run the in-camera Format command. This hardware command instructs the memory card's internal flash controller to immediately unmap every logical block and return pure zeros (`0x00`) or ones (`0xFF`) to any card reader. You can verify whether this happened in 10 seconds by opening the card in the free **DMDE** hex viewer: if scrolling down through the card shows nothing but `00 00 00` tai `FF FF FF`, the card controller executed a hardware erase and no software on a computer can read the data.
Why did my recovered RAW photos (.CR3 / .ARW / .NEF) come back perfect, while all my recovered .MP4 / .MOV videos won't open?
Still photos are relatively small (`25 MB` kohtaan `80 MB`) and are written to the memory card in one single continuous block of sectors, making them easy for standard recovery programs to carve out. Modern 4K/8K camera, GoPro, and DJI drone videos (`2 GB` kohtaan `50 GB`) are written in **fragmented, interleaved chunks** alongside simultaneous low-resolution proxy video streams (`.LRV`) and gyro stabilization metadata. When a standard recovery program tries to carve a video without the original file table, it scoops up proxy chunks and telemetry chunks mixed into the middle of the main video stream. To recover fragmented video from a formatted or corrupted card, you must scan your `.img` card backup using a **fragment-aware video recovery engine** such as **SanDisk RescuePRO Deluxe**, **Disk Drill (Advanced Camera Recovery mode)**, or **AeroQuartet Treasured**.
What is a `.RSV` file on my Sony SD card, and how do I turn it back into a playable `.MP4` video?
When a Sony camera loses battery power, overheats, or has its card door opened while actively recording a video, it cannot write the closing `moov` header index at the end of the clip. The camera saves all the recorded video and audio frames inside `PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIP/` with a **`.RSV` extension**. That `.RSV` file contains 99.9 percent of your video and audio intact. Do NOT delete it: copy the `.RSV` file to your computer alongside **one working `.MP4` video clip recorded on the exact same camera with the exact same resolution and framerate**, and run either Sony's free **Memory Card File Rescue** utility or the free open-source **`untrunc`** tool (`untrunc -s working_clip.MP4 broken_clip.RSV`) to transplant a healthy header onto your `.RSV` file and make it 100 percent playable in seconds.
If the plastic casing of my full-size SD card cracked in half or the lock switch fell off, is my data lost?
Usually no, as long as the internal green circuit board or smaller monolithic chip inside the plastic shell was not snapped in half. First, if only the tiny plastic **Write-Protect Lock slider** fell out of the side of the SD card, the card reader slot will refuse to write to it (which is actually safe for reading), or if the reader refuses to mount it, placing a tiny piece of clear scotch tape over the notch on the left edge (never covering the gold metal pins on the back) allows the reader's mechanical switch to engage so you can copy your files off and retire the broken card. Second, many full-size SD cards actually contain a half-height PCB inside the top half of the plastic shell; if only the hollow bottom plastic edge cracked, carefully transfer the intact internal PCB into a donor SD plastic shell just long enough to image it once and throw the damaged card away.
