  6. Maintain perspective and protect physical safety if the breach involves corporate infrastructure or extortion. Infostealer logs frequently trigger automated ransom or sextortion emails quoting your stolen password. Never pay extortionists; see our sextortion and online blackmail guide, and if you ever face a physical threat, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States and Canada, 112 across the European Union, 999 in the United Kingdom, or see our nọmba mberede ndekọ).

Why an Antivirus scan saying '0 Threats Found' does NOT mean your cookies are safe

Modern infostealers (such as Lumma Stealer, StealC, and Atomic macOS Stealer) are engineered as "Smash-and-Grab" ephemeral binaries. When launched, the executable runs in memory for 2 to 5 seconds, extracts your browser SQLite cookies, saved passwords, Discord tokens, and crypto wallets, POSTs a single 3-megabyte .zip archive to a command-and-control server, and runs a self-deletion command (del /f /q) that erases the malware binary from your hard drive. When you run Windows Defender or Malwarebytes an hour later, the scanner reports "0 Threats Found" because the thief already left the building with your keys. You must treat every cookie and password that was stored in your browser at the moment of execution as 100 percent compromised.

  7. ** Google MultiLogin / OAuthLogin Mweghachi Token na-erigbu ***:
  8. Security researchers revealed that infostealers do not just steal standard web cookies, they also extract undocumented oauth_token akara ọrụ sitere na Chrome's Web Data (token_service table) SQLite file. Even after a victim changes their Google password once, attackers could previously replay the stolen token_service OAuth token against Google's internal OAuthLogin endpoint to mint brand-new valid SID browser cookies unless the user explicitly signed out the compromised Chrome device session AND revoked third-party/OAuth device access.

Using a clean smartphone or clean secondary computer, work down this exact table from top to bottom. Order matters: always do Step A (Sign out all active sessions/devices) and Step B (Change password) and Step C (Audit 2FA/Passkeys/OAuth/Forwarding) together, if you only change your password without terminating active sessions, the attacker's live browser tab stays logged in and can watch you or add a rogue recovery method.

Platform / Service Exact URL to Terminate Stolen Session Cookies What Changing Password Alone Misses (Critical Extra Step Required)
1. Google / Gmail / YouTube myaccount.google.com/device-activity (Click every Windows/Mac/Linux desktop session -> Sign out) 1. Go to myaccount.google.com/connections and revoke OAuth access for unknown third-party apps and Chrome Sync.
2. Go to myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/passkeys and delete any Passkey or Authenticator added recently.
3. Open Gmail on Desktop > Gear Icon > See all settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP & Filters and Blocked Addresses to delete attacker forwarding rules.
4. If you have a YouTube Channel, check YouTube Studio > Settings > Permissions and remove any rogue "Manager / Editor" Brand Account email the attacker invited.

*4. Esemokwu *** (Ebumnuche dị elu nke onye ọ bụla infostealer) Open Discord -> User Settings (Gear) > Devices > Log Out All Known Devices 1. Changing your Discord password is mandatory because it cryptographically rotates your permanent Authorization bearer token stored in %APPDATA%\discord\Local Storage\leveldb.
2. Check User Settings > Authorized Apps and deauthorize all bots/apps.
3. Check Billing to make sure the attacker did not buy dozens of $9.99 Discord Nitro Gifts using your linked PayPal or credit card.
5. Steam (Valve) store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage -> Click "Deauthorize all other devices" 1. CRITICAL: Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey and Revoke your Steam Web API Key. Scammers immediately generate a persistent Steam Web API key on your account so that even after you change your password and deauthorize devices, their bot can still intercept and redirect your Counter-Strike / Dota 2 item trades (Trade Offer Scam).
6. Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads & Meta Ads Manager) accountscenter.meta.com/password_and_security -> Where you're logged in -> Select all unrecognized sessions -> Log out 1. Check Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info to make sure the attacker did not add a secondary burner email or phone number.
2. Check Meta Ads Manager (adsmanager.facebook.com): Infostealer gangs love to hijack old personal Facebook cookies to run $5,000/day in fraudulent ads charged to your saved PayPal or credit card, or add themselves as a Business Portfolio Admin (business.facebook.com/settings).
7. X (Twitter), Reddit, LinkedIn & TikTok X: x.com/settings/sessions -> Log out of all other sessions
Reddit: reddit.com/account-activity -> Log out of all other sessions
LinkedIn: linkedin.com/mypreferences/d/manage-active-sessions
Also check Connected Apps / OAuth Applications in X (x.com/settings/connected_apps) and Reddit (reddit.com/prefs/apps) to revoke automated spam-bot posting tokens.
8. GitHub, GitLab, AWS, Cloudflare & SSH Keys (For Developers & Admins) GitHub: github.com/settings/sessions -> Revoke all web sessions 1. Session cookies are not enough for dev accounts: Immediately check github.com/settings/tokens (Personal Access Tokens), github.com/settings/keys (** SSH & igodo GPG**), na -/.aws/credentials na PC butere ọrịa (infostealers na-ejide n'ụzọ doro anya .aws/credentials, .ssh/id_rsa, .kube/config, .npmrc, na FileZilla sitemanager.xml faịlụ).

How could someone post crypto scam links on my Instagram, Discord, or YouTube account when I have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with Google Authenticator turned on and never got a login alert?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) only guards the **front door (the `/login` screen)**. Once you type your password and 6-digit 2FA code on Monday morning, the website hands your web browser a **Session Cookie** so you don't have to re-type your 2FA code every time you click a new page on Tuesday or Wednesday. When an infostealer malware program ran on your PC, it copied that already-authenticated Session Cookie straight out of your browser's `Cookies` database and uploaded it to the attacker. When the attacker injected your cookie into their browser, Instagram/Discord/YouTube saw your valid session token and let them right in without ever showing them the login screen or asking for a 2FA code.

I changed my Gmail/Discord/Instagram password right after noticing the hack, so how did the hacker post AGAIN two hours later?

That happens for one of two reasons: First, if you typed your new password **on the same infected computer** before wiping the malware, the infostealer (or a bundled keylogger/persistence task) simply stole your new password and new session cookie all over again. Second, on platforms like Google, Microsoft, or Facebook, if the attacker used their first 5 minutes inside your account to **register their own hidden Passkey, Authenticator app, OAuth third-party app, or secondary recovery email**, or if you changed your password without clicking **"Sign out of all devices/sessions"**, their backdoor token remained active. Always change passwords from a **separate clean phone**, click **Sign out everywhere**, and delete any unfamiliar Passkeys, 2FA devices, or OAuth apps.

Can an infostealer steal my Hardware Passkeys (YubiKey) or iPhone/Windows Hello Passkeys?

No, an infostealer **cannot export the cryptographic private key of a Passkey** stored inside a hardware FIDO2 security key (like a YubiKey), an Apple Secure Enclave, an Android Titan M2 chip, or a Windows Hello TPM 2.0 chip, because those private keys live inside isolated silicon and are mathematically non-exportable. **However**, while the infostealer cannot steal the Passkey itself, it *can* still steal the **active HTTP session cookie** from your browser *after* you used your Passkey to log into a website, or steal a Passkey stored inside an *unlocked* software password manager extension. That is why Google, Microsoft, and the W3C developed **Device-Bound Session Credentials (DBSC)**, which cryptographically bind browser session cookies to your computer's TPM chip so stolen cookies stop working on a hacker's computer.

I received a terrifying email quoting my real old password at the top and showing a screenshot of my actual Windows desktop, the sender says they recorded me through my webcam and want $1,500 in Bitcoin. Is it real?

The **screenshot of your desktop and your password ARE real** because every commodity infostealer (`RedLine`, `Lumma`, `Vidar`) is programmed to take **one single static screenshot (`screenshot.jpg`) of whatever was on your monitor at the exact second the malware ran** and bundle it inside the `.zip` log file alongside your stolen browser passwords. Years or months later, bulk extortion spammers buy millions of old stealer logs for pennies and run an automated script that emails you that single screenshot and your password, lying that they "recorded you on your webcam." **There is no webcam video, they only have that one static screenshot taken the second the stealer ran.** Never pay them a cent; follow our [sextortion and online blackmail](../digital-and-tech/sextortion-and-online-blackmail.md) guide and clean your PC.
